What we did in 2012...
We started to fundraise £200 for buying school material for the Agta children of Diago. We made some pencils out of sticks, put them inside a "donation box" and sold them in strategic places. I also gave some talks about the Agta of Isabela at UCL (University College London) and BirdLife International (Cambridge).
After four months work, and with the help of many friends, we fundraised £330. Very exciting!!! This money was used to buy school material for all agta kids of Diago and Dipagden.
What we did in 2013...
After doing a presentation in his school (White Hill Junior School), Philip found other kids with the same interest on helping the Agta people...
With their help we formed the Agta Aid Team, and from that moment, many great things happened!!!
Our teacher Mrs Hudemann and our headteacher Mr Mills, helped us in our Agta Library Project, organising a book donation campaign which raised 210 books. They also helped us with the pencil sticks fundraising and we got £220 to buy more books in Tagalog language.
What we did in 2014 and 2015...
This was a great year!!! More and more people started to help us in our projects...
Cabenco made a donation for us, and we could send the first Agta teacher in Palanan (Redjina Cabaldo), to attend a training course at COSeL (Lyceum of the Philippines University), to teach indigenous people;
Philip went to the Philippines and buit the Agta Library in Dicotcotan (San Isidro School), with a total of 120 books in English and 115 books in Tagalog languages;
We contracted Redjina to develop activities with the Agta kids, using the books of the Library;
Philip did the translation of COSeL teaching material, for the Agta Paranan language, and collected traditional Agta stories to produce a book;
We organised talks as part of our fundraising strategy
What we did in 2016 and doing in 2017...
In April 2016, Agta Aid was invited to participate in the Indigenous Peoples Conference, at LPU University in the Philippines.
Later, Agta Aid was invited to make a presentation about its programmes in NCIP (National Committee on Indigenous Peoples), Philippines.
In the Philippines, the first prototypes of Books in Agta were distributed in Diago (Isabela). It was really amazing! and Philip collected more traditional Agta stories, and distributed school material for the Agta children.
With the support of the Whitehill Junior School and GLP (Global Learning Programme), Agta Aid created the Kids2Anak Programme. Emma is taking care of it!
In 2017, Agta Aid participated in the GLP (Global Learning Programme) CPD day event, in Annabel's Farm. We had the opportunity to present "education without Settlement" and Kids2Anak Programme;
Agta Aid also participated in the "Hunter-Gatherers Resilience and Well-Being in a Globalised World Workshop", at UCL (University College London), presenting the new concept of "Education Without Settlement". Juliet (NCIP), Leonora and Marilyn (COSeL) were here in London! It was great!
Agta Aid also made some ties to The Perse School Cambridge and received a donation from The Perse Parent Pupil Association. It was great!
Currently we are designing a workshop for year 6 children, simulating the Agta's social-political situation.
